This journal is friends-only.

Occasionally there are public posts - like all the Deathmatch posts. But after a while, all the entries are made private. If you've linked to something, and would like the entry made public again, comment here or PM and we can work it out.

My Dreamwidth journal is mostly public posts, and most posts are crossposted here.

Other places you can find me:

Twitter!

Tumblr!

Plurk!

If you're looking for fic, you can find it at AO3 or fanfiction.net or snackbites.

And here is my mostly neglected journal at Journalfen, where I mostly neglect help mod Fandom_Wank, Fandom Lounge and other wank-related comms.

Transformative works policy: Everything I have written or created is fair game for further transformative work, including, but not limited to: podfic, remix, sequels, translations, meta, fanart, fanmixes, and commentaries. Just credit me for the part of the work that I did, and let me know. The only exceptions to this policy are stories I have cowritten or remixed. In that case, I suggest seeking permission from my cowriter, or the original author as well. These works are labeled, but if there are any questions, please feel free to PM or comment to ask for clarification. The Dragon's Heir (1338 words) by Snacky
Chapters: 1/?
Fandom: A Song of Ice and Fire - George R. R. Martin, Game of Thrones (TV)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Jon Snow & Rhaegar Targaryen
Characters: Jon Snow, Rhaegar Targaryen, Daenerys Targaryen, Sansa Stark, Arya Stark
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe, Rhaegar Lives, Humor, Crack, Father-Son Relationship, R plus L equals J
Summary:

AU in which Rhaegar is alive and Jon just can’t believe this guy is his father, and Dany’s more than a little pissed off.

It's crack! In which I mock poor Jon Snow (as if he needs more of that!), but I amuse myself, as it goes.

Subject: Fic! That I Wrote!
Security: Public
Tags:crack ships!, fic, narnia, narnia fic exchange, the silmarillion
Today was the day for reveals for the 2014 Narnia Fic Exchange and for NFE Madness, so let's talk about fic.

First off, I received the most gorgeous story:

As The Waves Make Towards The Pebbl'd Shore (3928 words) by rthstewart
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis
Rating: Mature
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Caspian/Peter Pevensie
Characters: Caspian (Narnia), Peter Pevensie
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence, Time Shenanigans
Summary:

Once you are dead, you cannot want wrong things anymore. Caspian wants another 5 minutes on a round world.

Ruth put so much care and effort into making this story perfect for me, and I just LOVE it! Peter/Caspian! My beloved OTP! Getting a chance at a happy-for-a-while, if not a happy ever after! It's perfect and sweet, and she used so much of my headcanon in this (Peter being a musician, and Caspian an artist!) and it just made me grin from ear to ear as I read it.

Okay, on to the fic I wrote.

Endless Roads to Travel, Endless Lives to Live (3353 words) by Snacky
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Polly Plummer
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe
Summary:

Three adventures Polly Plummer never had, and two she gave to others.

This was written for [personal profile] redsnake05 for this prompt: I can't imagine Polly settling down to an ordinary life after her adventures. I'd be happy to see her back in England figuring out who she is and what she's doing, or perhaps a canon divergence where she and Digory get to have more adventures in Narnia or in other worlds. Perhaps there is a threat to the Tree during the Golden Age, and she and Digory get sent back to deal with it? Feel free to include other characters or OCs as needed.

I was so happy with this prompt! I have a lot of headcanon for Polly (OBVIOUSLY) and I always wanted her to have more adventures after The Magician's Nephew. Also, I didn't like that last glimpse of Polly we had in The Last Battle, so I wanted to write something that eased that a bit. I had SO MUCH FUN writing this. It could have been a lot longer, if I had more time - I wanted Polly to have a few more adventures - but as it was, it worked as a kind of five things fic: three adventures for Polly, and two that she had a hand in. I wanted to spend much more time on the day sorcery, because that was delightful to think about magical uses for. I feel like I could write a whole book about that. Maybe someday!

For NFE Madness I wrote a little ficlet for [personal profile] vialethe:

The World Spins Madly On (555 words) by Snacky
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis, The Silmarillion and other histories of Middle-Earth - J. R. R. Tolkien
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Maglor/Susan Pevensie
Characters: Susan Pevensie, Maglor
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe, Crossover, Crossover Pairings
Summary:

Just a quick ficlet of Susan Pevensie and Maglor living an eternal life

Because she loves Susan/Maglor and she's my partner in crime in crack ships. I had fun with this, because I love that ship too, and it's just fun to think of Susan and Maglor living forever with each other. I wanted to make this longer too, but oh, my terrible time management skills!

The Narnia Fic Exchange stories went live today. It's a week before the authors are revealed, and if you want to try to guess what story I wrote, I will write you a ficlet of your choice (fandom/pairing I am familiar with) if you guess correctly! Find the stories here! :D

And if you feel like trying your hand at some Narnia fic, you can participate in NFE Madness! Pick from the prompts here, and post your story to this collection. You have a week to write a story (or stories!) and post them, and there is no length requirement! They will be revealed next Sunday.

For the meme, [personal profile] musesfool gave me AL and AM:

AL. Talk about a review that made your day.

Pretty much ANY review makes my day, ngl. But I've had some really lovely ones! Basically any of the reviews for New York Is a State of Mind, but Cicely Is a Way of Life because so many people said such nice things about that fic. I often go back and reread them to cheer myself up when I am feeling down about my writing.

AM. Do you ever get rude reviews and how do you deal with them?

Very rarely, and it's usually only only on ff.net. I usually just play dumb in response, like, "Really? Thanks for letting me know!" Sometimes I want to be rude back, but it's not worth it.

Hey let's do a meme, wouldn't that be fun! As seen on tumblr!

Leave a comment with one of these and I'll post, without editing*:

FIRST — the first two sentences of my current project
LAST — the most recently written two sentences of my current project
NEXT — the next line. meaning i will finish the sentence I’m on and write a new one, which you’ll get.
[insert prompt here] — you post a prompt, and i’ll write three sentences based on that prompt, set in the same time/setting as my current project
THE END — i’ll make up an ending, or post the ending if i’ve written it
BEFORE THE BEGINNING — three sentences (or more) about something that happened before the plot of my current project
POV — something that’s already happened, retold from another character’s perspective

*okay, I might have to edit some names out of an exchange fic, but that's about it.

Hit me up!

1) I have no idea what's going on with Livejournal, but it's become next to impossible for me to use at work. Strangely, this is not any of work's doing. There seems to be some problem with Firefox and LJ not playing nice with each other. I can't comment on entries, nor can I read long comment threads (can't expand). I've followed LJ's suggestions, but none of them work. Basically, I'll have to use another browser just to read LJ. SIGH. LJ, I want to keep using you, but you make it so hard. ETA: If you comment on this entry on LJ, I can't reply, it won't let me. :(

2) If you follow me on the Facebook, you will have seen this already, but if not, here's Snacky health news: I am having an MRI today to determine a diagnosis for my back and leg pain. The x-rays already showed arthritis (severe facet arthopathy was the term used), so the MRI is to figure out why I have terrible nerve pain and numbness in my legs (spinal stenosis is a suspect).

So I have to lie flat and unmoving on my back for 35 minutes for the MRI. Aaaaaand due to the pain, that's one thing I have a lot of trouble doing. I've been practicing for a week, can only make it to 12 minutes without moving. So my wonderful doctor has given my a combo of sedatives and pain pills to take, in the hope that I will be able to make it the entire 30 minutes.

Basically I will be doped out of my mind. :D Which is probably good, since I've been having massive anxiety about this whole thing.

3) So I think my new boss is a bit of a flake. First there was the whole review thing where she tried to give me a review for a year when she only supervised me for 6 weeks. Yesterday, she sent out the new edition of our email newsletter, and asked me to link to it on the website, FB, and Twitter. She asked me the same thing last month, and I said I couldn't link to an email, unless she had a link to give me, since I can't just link to inboxes. But she didn't have a link, since she builds it as an email in Constant Contact. So I suggested that I would make a news post on our website and FB and Twitter about it, and link to our sign-up form, so people could sign up to receive the email. And she said, "Oh, that's a great idea!" So that was what we did last month.

I reminded her we had this conversation last month, and she was like, "Oooooh. Right. Well, can you recreate it on the website?" I told her I could, but it wouldn't look exactly like the email, since she's using Constant Contact's templates, but I could recreate it the best I could. "Won't that be too much work?" she asked, and I said, not really, if that's what she wanted me to do. But then I reminded her that the reason she wanted an email newsletter was so that people would sign up and give us their contact info, which she wants for funding/donor campaigns, and if we put the newsletter on the website, aren't we defeating that purpose? "Good point!" said she. "Keep doing what you're doing!"

I'm wondering if we'll have this conversation again next month.

Sorry, chocolate covered pretzels! I was rooting for you, but Toblerone took the battle.

Let's see what happens today. More candy, perhaps a contentious match!

This poll is closed.

You choose:

Cadbury mini eggs
26(39.4%)
KitKat
40(60.6%)

Let's just be clear: the mini eggs are not the smaller versions of the cream eggs, they're the solid chocolate eggs with the candy coating.

Hey kids! Welcome to

The Eighth Annual Snackfood Deathmatch!

If you're new to this fine establishment, here's the deal: every year I hold a snackfood deathmatch, in which you vote on your favorite snacks. This year, many of the snacks were suggested by the voters! So make sure to vote early (and often, if you have socks, I guess) for your faves!

There are four rounds (and PAY ATTENTION, because there's been a few changes): Candy, Crunch/salty, Miscellaneous (this round is basically a mish-mash of snacks), and Baked Goods ("baked" is used loosely here). Every day I put up a new fightcard, and you vote to determine the winner. We go through all the rounds once, then come back to determine the winner of each, then those winners fight against each other, and finally, there is but one left standing, the Snackfood Champion of the year.

And yes, we fit it all into one month. :D

So let's get right to it, shall we?

This way to the pictures!Collapse )

Ready?

This poll is closed.

You choose:

chocolate covered pretzels
56(60.9%)
peanut M&Ms
36(39.1%)

VOTE.

Hey folks, it's that time of year again! The Snackfood Deathmatch is coming up on March 1st. I'll be running this on Livejournal again, but you can vote with an openID, twitter handle, or facebook name, or whatever else LJ lets you log in as.

Today's post is to get some suggestions for snacks! Yes! What would you like to see in the Snackfood Deathmatch? Be as obscure as you want, I'm really trying not to have the same snacks year after year.

So comment and tell me if you're still interested in a deathmatch, and if so, what you'd like to see in it. All suggestions will be taken into consideration by Snacky Industries (TM).
